Voicing analysis

• Need both:
  • Pitch
  • Degree of voicing
• Pitch is perceptually defined - the acoustic correlate is fundamental frequency
• The fundamental frequency may be missing - e.g. telephone speech
• Even on band limited speech, pitch is still clear

Standard reference is Hess [11].

 
• Pitch synchronous analysis
• Zero-crossing points
• Peak in the autocorrelation function
• Peak in the autocorrelation of the LP residual
• The average magnitude difference function
• Peak in the cepstrum
• Combining candidates
