Multi-pulse coders

• Like LP coders but the excitation is modelled as a number of pulses
• Pulse position is found by an exhaustive search to minimise mean squared error
• About 1 pulse per millisecond is enough to generate high quality speech
• No longer very popular
• Typical bit-rate is 9600 bps
