About me

Currently, I am a 4th year Ph.D. student at the Cambridge University Engineering Department, supervised by Prof. Mark Gales, working as part of the ALTA Project to develop automated approaches to second language learning and assessment.

My primary research interest is in applying Deep Learning to Natural Language Processing for automatic assessment of second language learning and proficiency. Specifically, I am investigating off-topic response detection, relevance assessment, grading and provision of feedback to the learner. Additionally, I am investigating the estimation of prediction uncertainty for Deep Learning, which is important for high stakes applications, such as medicine, self driving cars, finance and high-stakes examinations.

One of my hobbies is to use generative neural models, such as Variational Auto-encoders and Generative Adversarial Networks to create digital generative neural art. Furthermore, I have a general interest in architectures, optimisers and adaptation methods for Deep Learning. Additionally, my broad research interests include Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Speech Recognition and related technologies.
