About me

I am a Ph.D. student in the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge and a graduate member of Christ's College. Prior to this, I studied Information Engineering at the University of Cambridge, and went on an exchange year to MIT in 2012-2013 to study Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Currently, I am a member of the Machine Intelligence Lab, Speech Group at Cambridge and am supervised by Prof. Mark Gales, working as part of the ALTA Project to develop automatic approaches to second language learning and assessment.

My primary research interest is in applying Deep Learning to Natural Language Processing for automatic assessment of second language learning and proficiency. Specifically, I am investigating the application of Deep Feedforward and Recurrent Neural Networks to spoken language assessment, off-topic response detection, prediction uncertainty estimation and provision of feedback to the learner. Furthermore, I am intersted in discriminative latent variable neural models for acoustic modelling. One of my hobbies is to use generative neural models, such as Variational Autoencoders and Generative Adversarial Networks to create digitial generative neural art. Furthermore, I have a general interest in architectures, optimizers and adaptation methods for Deep Learning. Addtionally, my broad research interests include Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Speech Recognition and related technologies.
