Strain

This task page enables simple visualisation and control of strain images from RF data. It exposes the most important features of the advanced RF strain settings dialog and also some of the controls in the RF display settings dialog. The task page is automatically selected when visualising strain images from RF data.

Strain processing

Selecting 'Fast', 'Default' or 'Fine' strain calculation will result in setting various sliders in the advanced RF strain settings dialog to appropriate values for strain imaging. 'Fast' is optimised for speed of display, 'Fine' is optimised for display quality, and 'Default' is a good compromise between the two. The following slider determines the trade-off between strain image resolution and strain noise level. Finally, the temporal persistence slider controls how many frames are used in the strain calculations. Altering this final slider will result in re-calculating the current strain image from scratch, without any persistence with previous frames.

Strain display

These settings control the major display options for strain images. The display range is from zero (completely stiff) to the selected value multiplied by the detected background strain in the image. The noise mask level controls the strain quality at which the data is masked out. Setting the image opacity to less than 100 results in the B-scan being visible underneath the strain image.

B-scan display

These two sliders provide a convenient way to control the B-scan if it is also being displayed with the strain image. They mimic the controls provided by the RF display settings dialog.
