Two Research Associates in Speech Technology
Job advertisement, EPSRC NST project
Research Assistant/Associate Vacancies in Speech Recognition and Speech Synthesis, Dialogue Systems Group
Applications are invited for Research Associate positions in automatic speech recognition (ASR) and statistical speech synthesis. The RA positions will be associated with two projects based in the Dialogue Systems Group at the Cambridge University Engineering Department.
One project is to develop methods to automatically evaluate English-speaking skills of non-native speakers in oral tests. The specific task is to investigate non-native speech recognition and scoring approach. This project will be a one-year project starting in early Aug. 2011.
The second project is to develop dialogue systems for interactive web-search based on natural conversation. On the ASR side, the project will investigate fast adaptation for real-time systems and noise-robust ASR. On the synthesis side, the project will investigate expressive statistical synthesis with rich contexts. This project is expected to start from Nov. 2011 and last for 3 years.
HTK and ATK will be used as the speech recognition platforms for both projects. The successful candidate will be familiar with HMM based speech recognition or synthesis techniques. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in adaptation techniques, noise robustness, end-to-end implementation of speech recognition systems, and familiarity with the ATK/HTK platform. Candidates who have or will shortly have a PhD are preferred although candidates with comparable research experience are also encouraged to apply.
Prospective candidates should send their CV as soon as possible to Dr Kai Yu (
ky219@cam.ac.uk).
